favorite paraphrase

One of my favorite passages that Eugene Peterson paraphrased in the Message is from John chapter 1. Here it is:
The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood.
God moved into the neighborhood. I love that.
And that changed everything.
He still lives in the neighborhood.
When Jesus left, He promised us that He would send a helper, a counselor.
The Holy Spirit is still here...still in the neighborhood.
Wherever you are. Whatever you are doing. God is in the neighborhood.
I wonder how things would change if we were more aware of His presence. Not to scare us or guilt us. But to empower us and lead us.
God is in the neighborhood. And He desperately loves you and me.

  1. What struck me immediately was the scripture in Matthew 6, "seek ye first the kingdom of God...." The point being, in looking around the neighborhood we should see where His working is being done. The one very poignant point made by Henry Blackaby in his Experiencing God was that if you want to find out the will of God for your life, go to where His work is being done. Seems to me he was saying that we should look around the neighborhood; find out where God is working and get to it!
